We have not forgotten inviting and involving Colorado cities to participate in DAW events. At this time, the cities are Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Fort Collins, and Grand Junction.  President Raymond informed me that Robert Ferguson will be happy to be Colorado Springs volunteer. They need to reserve space for Deaf Awareness Week event soon.

COUNT DOWN TO DEAF AWARENESS WEEK 2010

By Eldon L. Ragland <pgrep@cadeaf.org>, Chair, CAD Deaf Awareness Week 2010 Committee

PLANNING FOR DEAF AWARENESS WEEK 2010

The Colorado Association of the Deaf (CAD) will host Deaf Awareness Week (DAW) celebrations this year from 25 September through 2 October 2010.

The primary goal of DAW is to offer week-long series of informational, educational, and social opportunities that will open doors for increased community collaboration and communication between our hearing coworkers, neighbors, friends, family members - and ourselves, leading to better understanding of abilities and capabilities of deaf Coloradans and of deaf culture and heritage in our state.

Most events will be interpreted in both sign and spoken language as needed, and with live captioning.

Several exhibitors are scheduled to be on hand during the opening day celebration. There will be children's activities, proclamations by dignitaries, and community awards.

The DAW theme will be announced at a later date, as will locations of various events.

Contest: DESIGN A LOGO FOR DEAF AWARENESS WEEK 2010!

Here’s the scoop: If you're a designer, an illustrator, a sketch artist, or a generally creative person, consider designing the Deaf Awareness Week 2010 logo!

What can you come up with to visually represent the Rocky Mountains? The State of Colorado? And  incorporate "DAW" and "2010" - or "Deaf Awareness Week 2010" - and "Colorado"? Maybe a formal system of hand gestures on the Denver skyscrapers? Or on a Colorado peaks and plains image?

To allow more people to participate, we'll hold a DAW 2010 logo contest and let our Deaf Awareness Week 2010 committee members vote for the best one.

If your design is chosen as the "official" CAD/DAW 2010 logo, it will appear on hundreds of T-shirts, on web sites receiving millions of hits, and on all printed material preceding and during the actual week-long event in September 2010.

Cities and communities in the state of Colorado may use this logo.  Also, local DAW organizers may incorporate the "official" CAD/DAW logo in creating their own logos to represent their location, event, or community.

The rules

  1. You must incorporate the words "DAW" (or "Deaf Awareness Week") and "2010" and "Colorado” into your design.
  2. Your logo will have no pornographic or profane images.
  3. Your logo has to look okay printed in black and white.  You can use color; just make sure that turning it 'grayscale' won’t ruin it, since all the printed matter will be in black and white. (Bear in mind that every extra color makes the T-shirts more costly!)
  4. You have until 28 February 2010 midnight MST to submit your logo idea.
  5. The decision of the CAD/DAW 2010 committee will be final.

Logos will be officially entered into the contest with the delivery of a .jpg or .png or .pdf to pgrep@cadeaf.org no later than midnight MST on 28 February 2010.

If you’re working on a logo and want feedback, feel free to email your ideas to Daisy Bravo or to me. If you have some good ideas but can’t draw to save your life, email your ideas to Daisy Bravo or to me, and maybe another community member will like your suggestion enough to draw it.
